Welcome to our fifth installment of Cool Currents, our quarterly newsletter!
Earth’s hottest recorded day happened this July. Rising temperatures pose a challenge across the industry and so we spent much of this past quarter focused on testing our products in difficult conditions and working to ensure that they can withstand high levels of heat. I’m proud to say that we completed several shipments in ambient temperatures exceeding 50°C.
Beyond the heat, we’ve seen cold chain disruptions impacting the distribution of life-saving medications in conflict zones, worker strikes shutting down ports, and Hurricane Helene ravaging much of the Southeast.
The impact of these temperatures is not lost on me and the importance of a resilient supply chain has never been more evident. As we look toward the end of this year and into 2025, we’re focused on how we can continue to provide stability and peace of mind.

Our piece with Collab Fund explores the cold chain's role in global health and food security. We examine how temperature-controlled logistics enable everything from vaccine distribution to reducing food waste in developing economies.
During the 2024 Innovation Network Gathering, we pitched alongside five other companies at the event's inaugural Whale Tank. This unique forum connected us with pharmaceutical industry leaders, sparking discussions about the cold chain's role in healthcare delivery and access.
Our latest analysis explores a critical concept: carbon reductions today have more impact than equivalent reductions in the future. We examine how the compounding effects of greenhouse gasses make immediate action crucial for climate change mitigation.
In September, we attended three healthcare conferences. At a high level, here are the key insights we gathered:
Decentralized Clinical Trials (Insights from DPHARM): Decentralized trials are gaining momentum, making clinical research more accessible to patients while reducing travel burdens. Discussions emphasized the importance of real-time data tracking and reducing waste in trial logistics to improve operational efficiency.
Cold Chain Sustainability (Insights from LogiPharma): There was a considerable number of conversations centered around sustainability. As the cold chain industry continues to push toward greener solutions, such as reducing waste and energy consumption, making sustainability-related education more accessible will be essential.
Strengthening Site Relationships (Insights from Global Site Solutions Summit): Building robust relationships with clinical sites is an essential part of successful trials. Talks focused on operational challenges and how to address them.

At a live MCJ podcast taping with former presidential candidate and climate advocate Tom Steyer, he said: "We don't get points for degree of difficulty [in our solutions for helping reduce emissions]."
His reminder underscores the importance of practical, scalable solutions in the fight against climate change. At Artyc, we take this to heart, focusing on innovative yet straightforward approaches to decarbonize the cold chain and drive measurable impact.
Artyc will be taking some time off the road as we recently came together for our bi-annual offsite. It was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with each other after a busy year, and we’re excited to carry that energy forward into the months ahead.
Hope everyone has a great holiday season! We’ll see you in the New Year.
